New to the forum and relatively new to sculpting.
I'm working on a new sculpture that is tentatively going to be a dark elf fighter.

I've just got the basic forms so far, I plan on detailing the face and hands some more and then baking it before I continue on with the clothing/armour. The pieces of armature wire in his hands are temporary just to help visualize the pose. They will be replaced later with long fighting knives.

Comments, criticisms, etc. are all welcome.

Thanks.

This looks good anatomically, and the pose looks like a well balanced fighting stance. But if you are making a dark elf you might want to slim him down a bit. You have to remember that when you add the armor you are going to bulk him up even more. I hope that is helpful. :P

nice start Faust.the pose and anatomy look good but i agree with BadMamma Jama,if this guy is a dark elf,i suggest trimming the trunk down a bit.if not it could always be a fighting haradrim,or some other man type. sorry to mix d&d and Tolkien. nice beginning none the less and look forward to your updates.

Thanks guys, I've been thinking I made him a little too bulky as well, so you confirmed my suspicions. I guess now I need to decide whether to take the time to trim him down (lots of work) or make him into some non-elf character.

If that's the case, then at least you have a really solid base to start from. It will be really interesting to see what new direction you go. :P

Welcome to the board, have you seen our DVD? You are already doing several of the things we discuss. I think both the anatomy and balance look great and that's all you can ask at this point. I like the spinal line going up the back, those are helpful in front and back. Keep us updated , It's coming along nicely.

Thanks Jarrod,
Yeah, I've got the DVD and have learned a lot from it, including a lot of things I was doing wrong the last time I tried sculpting something like this :)

Hopefully with this long weekend I'll be able to work on it some more.

Well, it feels like I've stared at this sculpt far more than I've actually worked on it, but I've finally been making some progress. Still a long way to go, but I thought I'd give an update and get people's opinion.

A little update:

I finally got the chain mail and armour plates done. I'm working on the weopons now and will be finishing the hands and forearms next.

I'll get this thing done eventually. I'm so slow....

Thanks Todd, I appreciate it.

The chain mail wasn't too bad to do once I got into a rhythm with it; although I definitely learned there is a fine line between enough caffiene and too much caffiene.

The buckles down the front drove me a little crazy though. I thought about giving up after about the second one. Glad I didn't since I like how it came out.
