I have two cats and they really arent that much of a problem as super sculpey or sulpey firm arent that sticky so if you hair in the air instead of your cat wrapping round your sculpt i wouldnt worry

i think bulk buying is out of the question as even if it is cheaper its still too expensive chavant sounds a lot like plastercine and as for water based clay we use that at school on odd ocassions but there is a kilm at school....
though it think Castilene may be worth a look if i can find any where to buy it

ignore my last comment iv looked at the hi-res again and heres my rethink

First at the top of the picture the end of the tail apperears to be quite flat surrgesting octopus although it might just be the way the tails twisted if its a snake
second moving down the page the next circle appears to contait suckers or a scale pattern
directly under the legs there is what could be an eye or it might just be a stone with part of the snake on it although i think it is a eye as there is a simalar "lump" next to it
and lastly i think thats just the guys leg which i dont no why iv labled
lastly again it is called Frazetta´s Serpent and an octopus isnt a serpent
you no it a shame we cant ask him

i would say snake it as there no mass for the head of an octopus and it only looks like theres one "tentical".

Yer there is a plastic wrap around the wire im using but i was planning on using boilling water as somone surrgested in the "talking shop" i didnt think it would be a problem.
and as for the crits maybe c&c welcomed was the wrong choice of words iv been sculpting for about 3 months and i havent really finished anything yet or atleast not to a standard im happy with. so yer iv made a few mistakes with this sculpt although i feel disinclined to redo it and maybe i should try to do a more cartoony version than perviously planned. and finally id like to thank the people who have taken an interest even if i havent taken the crits that constructively

Im no expert on the subject as ive only been sculpting for about 6 months now but what iv found is that its harder to get a lot of detail into soft clay like ss and the colours not great either. I use ss firm which i prefer but i still use a bit of ss about for things like eyes and teeth. i suppose a positive of using soft clay is that you can work a lot more with your hands and its easier too work with intualy i know a lot of people like softer clay but really its about personal preference. youv just got to find the clay thats right for you
